Our Goals:
  • to develop awareness  by faculty, staff, and other campus constituencies of the contributions of women to the mission of UCI
  • to serve as a networking and communications channel for women employees at UCI
  • to act as a means for women to provide collective input into the decision-making process for issues affecting women at UCI

An Invitation to Join

Academic and Professional Women (A&PW) of UCI is pleased to invite you to join our membership.  A&PW was formed in 1987, yet our goals are still meaningful today.

Women represent a significant part of the academic and administrative staff at UCI, making many important and valuable contributions.  Even so, Professor Judy Rosener of the Paul Merage School of Business calls women in the workforce "America's competitive secret," and illustrates that, in spite of gains in recent years, our work is often both undervalued and underpaid.

Whether our individual role is academic or administrative, many of our needs are the same.  We want our contributions to be valued, our position tenure to be safe and secure, and we want to be fairly compensated for what we do.  Most of all, we want to be heard--and A&PW provides a forum to unite our voices.

Won't you join us this year to add your voice to those of other vital, involved and very interesting UCI women, and help us to make a difference?

Benefits of Membership

In pursuit of our mission, A&PW hosts a variety of fun and educational events, including monthly luncheons or breakfasts during the academic year.  The lunches offer a special members-only rate, but are open to guests.  Several events that are member favorites have developed into annual traditions.

For those of you with special interests, several satellite groups are offered that meet on a regular basis, outside the scheduled A&PW general meetings. These groups provide additional opportunities to get acquainted and interact with other members who share a wide variety of interests.

The direction and programs for all of these groups are determined by the members.  With the assistance of the group's chair, members present ideas and plan activities.  Our various Special Interest groups include:
